Voice over Internet Protocol or "VoIP", is a technology that can communicate by voice over the Internet or other network accepting TCP/IP. The main protocols used for establishing VoIP connections are:
- SIP
- IAX
- H323
The main protocol used for voice transmission is:

The main codecs used are:
- - G711
- - G729
- - G722
Transport communication over IP is very dependent on the latency of a network, bandwidth and network installation. These points can affect the quality of a conversation. Everything depends on the type of Internet connection you use: xDSL, SDSL, DSL, ADSL, etc..
